I recently took a stroll down my favorite neighborhood during my favorite time of year — the charming West Village in autumn.
There’s never a shortage of fun things to do in the West Village, but something about autumn makes this neighborhood shine.
These photos were taken the last weekend in October 2021 and I wanted to share them here, for anyone curious about what autumn in the West Village looks like.
I was surprised to see how much the green leaves refused to change so late into the season, but equally impressed. Regardless, there were pumpkins on the charming brownstone stoops and Halloween decorations were in full swing — and all was right with the world.

Halloween Decorations in Greenwich Village
Greenwich Village has some of the most charming Halloween decorations in New York City. This is actually one of my favorite neighborhoods to wander aimlessly through during the cooler autumn months. Here’s some of the standouts from this year.
The West Village Halloween decorations on the building are quite something, no? The theme was Ghost busters and the they executed it well!

West Village in the fall
Turns out the charm of the neighborhood is enough to lure folks to the West Village in autumn, Halloween decor be damned.

Here’s a few random photos from my walk through Greenwich Village in autumn.

Where exactly is the West Village in New York City?
Great question, and one that is often debated.
The West Village is a neighborhood in the western-most section of Greenwich Village. Most New Yorkers refer to the whole of Greenwich Village as West Village or The Village, when in reality, the West Village is an actual section within the larger Greenwich Village neighborhood.
It’s confusing, so here’s a map.
See how Washington Square Park is not technically within the West Village, but is part of Greenwich Village? Essentially, everything west of 6th Avenue is West Village territory.
