SoHo in New York City is known for its charming cast-iron buildings and cobblestone streets. It’s also home to some really cute coffee shops that are worth checking out. After spending a lot of time in the neighborhood, I’ve put together a list of what I believe are the best coffee spots in SoHo. Whenever my friends visit the city and stay in SoHo, this is the list I recommend to them.
Whether you’re looking to focus on some work or catch up with a friend, there’s a SoHo cafe with a seat with your name on it! But enough of the small talk, let’s get to the best coffee shops in SoHo.

Maman
Website: Maman
Address: 39 Centre St, New York, NY 10013
Ask any local about the best coffee shops in SoHo, and the honest ones will mention Maman. Offering a whimsical and charming vibe, this is one of the most popular spots to meet an old friend. Originally started as a French bakery and cafe in SoHo, Maman quickly became renowned for perfectly executed baked goods.
But what really put them on the map was Oprah listing their nutty chocolate chip cookie as one of her favorite things. I never miss an opportunity to order the quiche, chocolate croissant, or their famous macadamia nut cookie. Plus, they serve some of the best coffee in New York City (not to be underestimated at a bakery).
Ground Support Cafe
Website: Ground Support Cafe
Address: 399 W Broadway, New York, NY 10012
Ground Support Cafe offers an inviting environment filled with natural light and friendly workers. It’s not uncommon to see the SoHo coffee shop filled with happy locals catching up with friends or eagerly clicking away on their laptops, knee-deep in work.
In a world full of coffee shops touting the freshest coffees, it’s commonplace to see a lot of coffee beans go to waste. Behind the scenes, farmers are forced to cut their losses and toss any leftover beans, but Ground Support Cafe has made an effort to curb this problem.
Ground Support Cafe buys the previous season’s coffee beans, mixes them with fresh beans, and roasts them with precision to churn out delectable cups of coffee. It’s a win-win situation where they reduce waste, help local farmers recoup their losses, and the customer enjoys one of the best SoHo coffee shops!
La Cabra
Website: La Cabra
Address: 284 Lafayette St, New York, NY 10012
Established in 2013, La Cabra, meaning “the goat” in Spanish, has earned its reputation as the GOAT (greatest of all time) in the eyes of the hip and young, thanks to its in-house coffee roasting. Originating from Denmark, the SoHo coffee shop offers locally sourced food and exceptional coffee in a friendly atmosphere.
The cozy and inviting space mirrors traditional Danish cafe aesthetics, offering some of the best coffee in SoHo alongside delectable baked goods – a testament to La Cabra’s exceptional quality despite its small size.
Blank Street
Website: Blank Street
Address: 181 Prince St, New York, NY 10012
Blank Street Coffee in SoHo earns its reputation as one of the best coffee shops for a simple reason: exceptional quality and a welcoming vibe. They source top-notch, ethically sourced beans, and their skilled baristas craft each cup with precision. The chic yet cozy ambiance adds to the experience, making it a go-to spot for those who appreciate excellent coffee in a comfortable setting.
La Colombe Coffee Roasters
Website: La Colombe Coffee Roasters
Address: 154 Prince St, New York, NY 10012
If you’re looking for a delicious cup of joe, look no further than La Colombe Coffee Roasters. La Colombe is one of the best coffee shops in SoHo, guaranteed to satisfy any caffeinated craving you might have. With an array of coffees, teas, and treats, La Colombe takes it one step further and offers certain specialty drinks on tap. I recommend ordering the Oatmilk Draft Latte!
Butler
Website: Butler
Address: 177 Lafayette St, New York, NY 10013
Opened in 2016 by Ryan Butler and co-founders, Butler in NYC serves up a curated menu that pairs perfectly with their top-notch Intelligentsia coffee. Known for its smoothness, this coffee comes from the reputable Chicago-based roasters Intelligentsia.
Whether it’s morning or afternoon, Butler has your perfect cup of hot or iced coffee. The sleek SoHo location, with its inviting interiors, is a popular spot for friends to chat or individuals to work on laptops. It’s a top-notch coffee shop in SoHo, offering a spacious and well-lit environment in which to enjoy your coffee with a good book.
PlantShed
Website: PlantShed
Address: 1 Prince St, New York, NY 10012
All my fellow plant lovers will be in a state of euphoria at PlantShed. Their original Upper West Side location has been an oasis in the concrete jungle for more than 40 years. The plant craze has been in full swing over the last few years, and PlantShed has capitalized on this by creating one of the best coffee shops in SoHo, all while basking in abundant green foliage.
The plants & flowers are also for sale, so it’s not uncommon to see folks walking out with a latte in one hand and a hanging basket in another. Like the other best coffee shops in New York City, most of their locations have spaces for guests to hang out. Whether it’s to get work done or read a book, PlantShed provides a Garden of Eden-like reprieve from the bustling city.
Gasoline Alley Coffee
Website: Gasoline Alley Coffee
Address: 325 Lafayette St, New York, NY 10012
Gasoline Alley Coffee is technically in NoHo, but it’s so good and so close to SoHo that it deserves a spot on our list of the best coffee shops in SoHo. This bright and fast-paced cafe churns out some of the best coffee in the neighborhood. Gasoline Alley is on the smaller side, but both ends of the shop open up and offer ample seating outside, so finding a spot to rest your feet won’t be a problem. The menu is simple and straight to the point; I highly recommend the iced Americano and pair it with a flakey croissant.
Local’s Tip: Right next door to Gasoline Alley Coffee is Funny Face Bakery, mentioned on our list of 15 Seductive Cookies in New York City Are (Easily) Worth the Calories. Swing by and try the s’mores cookie!
Now or Never Coffee
Website: Now or Never Coffee
Address: 30 Grand St, New York, NY 10013
Not only is Now or Never Coffee one of the best coffee shops in SoHo, but it’s also one of the cutest cafes in the neighborhood. In 2014, founder Sehwan quit his corporate job in search of his true passions. After brainstorming at a local coffee shop with a life-changing macchiato in hand, Sehwan knew that the field of coffee was his calling.
From then, it became his personal mission to learn everything there is to know about coffee and to create something memorable, and we’re all better for it. Fast forward to 2019, Sehwan opened Now or Never Coffee, which has become one of the best coffee shops in SoHo.
Olive’s
Website: Olive’s
Address: 191 Prince St, New York, NY 10012
For over 30 years, Olive’s has been a New York City favorite for those in search of delicious, fresh food to-go. This SoHo cafe is tiny, completely by design. SoHo is a busy neighborhood, and folks are constantly on the go, so Olive’s stepped up to the challenge and created a quick grab-and-go shop devoted to fresh fare.
Serving high-quality food that’s made daily, Olive’s also churns out some of the best caffeinated drinks in the neighborhood. With that level of commitment, it’s no surprise Olive’s made our list of the best coffee shops in SoHo.
Balthazar’s Bakery
Website: Balthazar’s Bakery
Address: 80 Spring St, New York, NY 10012
If you’ve been dying to get brunch at the uber-famous Balthazar restaurant for quite some time but can’t seem to score a reservation, I learned a trick – visit the bakery next door! Seriously, the BEST chocolate donuts I’ve ever had – perfectly dense and chocolatey.
Oh, and the chai latte from this place can’t be missed. Although this is technically a bakery, their drinks and baked goods are worth writing home about, so I feel confident in adding them to a list of the best coffee shops in SoHo.
Citizens Cafe
Website: Citizens Cafe
Address: 201 Lafayette St, New York, NY 10012
For a vibrant, delicious cup of coffee, check out Citizen’s, an Australian-based cafe that opened in 2016. Co-founders Justin Giuffrida and Andrew Geisel aimed to create a community-focused space, emphasizing relationships and familiarity.
The kind staff, beautiful setting, and top-notch drinks make Citizens one of the best coffee shops in SoHo. I recommend ordering the Smashing Avocado—a delightful combination of multigrain toast, pickled onion, feta, and beetroot hummus for a delicious and memorable meal.
Urban Backyard
Website: Urban Backyard
Address: 180 Mulberry St, New York, NY 10012
If you’re a fan of succulent plants and cupcakes this is the spot for you. Urban Backyard is a small oasis in the heart of Little Italy and one of the cutest cafes in SoHo. Popular for their realistic mini cupcakes with frosting piped into the shape of succulents, they’re almost too cute to eat (almost).
Despite its small size, the SoHo cafe offers a unique selection of coffees and teas, making it a go-to spot for a mid-day pick-me-up. Committed to sustainability, Urban Backyard sells natural and reusable products and prepares sauces and syrups in-house with fresh ingredients.
The cozy, rustic ambiance, adorned with greenery, transforms this small space into a charming escape from the city, making it one of the best coffee shops in SoHo where friendly staff are ready to offer recommendations.
Something to note: Urban Backyard no longer sells the mini succulent cupcakes in store. You have to pre-order them online and pick up in store.
Cafe Leon Dore
Website: Cafe Leon Dore
Address: 214 Mulberry St, New York, NY 10012
Cafe Leon Dore is a charming coffee shop in SoHo that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a Parisian cafe. With a menu inspired by Greek coffee and treats, the distinct flavors offered by this coffee shop are unparalleled.
Their iconic Freddo cappuccino is what put them on the map and keeps New Yorkers coming back for more. One sip of their cloud-like foam and you’ll understand the hype. After many lattes, cappuccinos, and Americanos, Cafe Leon Dore is one of the best cafes in SoHo.
787 Coffee
Website: 787 Coffee
Address: 72 Thompson St, New York, NY 10012
If you crave a lively atmosphere and excellent coffee, 787 is the place to be. I especially love the purpose-driven mission of this charming SoHo cafe, which is to provide a farm-to-cup coffee experience while supporting the local community.
The goal is to grow coffee sustainably (at 787’s coffee plantation in Puerto Rico) and offer livable wages to the locals they hire. It’s a beautiful thing, and the result is exceptional – one of the best coffee shops in SoHo!
