Today, cobble stone streets serve as home to some of the best stores in SoHo, but that wasn’t always the case. Back in the day this area was covered by factories and warehouses, which have since been converted into expensive condos equipped with storefronts at the ground level.
You’ll find quite the mishmash of high-end luxury designers, unique boutiques and clothing stores in SoHo, all crammed together from one block to the next. It goes without saying shopping in SoHo is hard to beat!
But with all the options it can be hard to decide which of the stores in SoHo are worth the stop. To that end, I’ve opted to create a guide to the best SoHo shopping so you can get the most out of your visit.
But I’m not one for small talk, so without further ado lets dive in!
The sales tax for shopping in NYC
Before we start, it’s prudent to go over NYC’s tax situation so that you’re not caught by surprise at the register during your SoHo shopping spree.
New York City shoppers are subject to three taxes: the city’s sales tax of 4.5%, the state sales tax of 4% and a commuter sales tax of 0.375%. All told, the total sales tax for shopping in New York City clocks in at 8.875%.
However, clothing and footwear under $110 are exempt from NYC and NY state sales tax and will therefore not be taxed.
This may sound confusing but here’s how it works: If you buy a shirt for $80 and a purse for $200, you will not be charged tax for the shirt (because it’s less than $110) but will be charged a sales tax of 8.875% for the purse.
Layout of SoHo
SoHo is a neighborhood in Lower Manhattan, whose name is an abbreviation for “south of Houston Street”. The consensus borders are Houston Street in the north and Canal Street in the south, but its eastern & western borders are disputed.
For our purposes we will stick to the area between Broadway and Lafayette to the east and west, respectively when defining SoHo’s official boundaries.
The entire SoHo shopping area spans 25 blocks, and if size alone is any indication, you can bet you’ll find whatever you’re looking for here. As such, the area is typically crowded with eager shoppers, so you’ll want to avoid visiting during the weekends, if possible.
The best shopping in SoHo is done by getting lost, so allow yourself to roam from one block to the next aimlessly, just make sure you start with the most impressive shopping street in NYC first, Broadway.

Best Stores in SoHo NYC
I like my money where I can see it — hanging in my closet.

Affordable Clothing Stores SoHo
Uniqlo
Uniqlo hails from Japan and is the 4th largest retailer in the world. When the store sought to branch into the US market it had to choose a flagship location and New York City was a no-brainer. But where exactly?
They landed on opening a SoHo clothing store. Since then, the store has amassed an enthusiastic fan base in NYC and many locals stock up on high quality basics here. The quality is superb and the store is easy to love.
Address: 546 Broadway, New York, NY 10012, United States
Local’s tip: Right around the corner from Uniqlo is Balthazar, which is one of 10 Delightful New York City Bakeries (Easily Worth the Calories)

Zara
The sleek and clean aesthetic that Zara’s SoHo clothing store offers is hard to beat. Especially at their price points! Whether its a pair of slacks for your cousins wedding that you’ll wear once then let collect dust or t-shirt you’ll wear everyday for a month, Zara has you covered.
Address: Broadway #503, New York, NY 10012

Muji
Following a minimalist approach to life and fashion, Muji has become a top-notch SoHo clothing store for those who prefer a modest look. The full Japanese name (Mujirushi Ryōhin) translates to “no-brand quality goods” so there’s no need to worry about flashy logos.
Muji is among the best for basics, like simple shirts & dresses. They also have a vast collection of home goods and essentials, so its one of the best stores in SoHo has for those looking to just wander.
Address: 455 Broadway, New York, NY 10013

H&M
New Yorkers love shopping at affordable SoHo stores and H&M is the perfect testament to this fact. No matter the time, the store is always bustling with locals looking to score deals on the current trends.
As the second largest clothing retailer in the world they have multiple (huge) locations in NYC, but their SoHo location is one of the best.
H&M is also listed on Where to Shop (Until You Drop) in New York City: A Shopaholic’s Guide
Address: 515 Broadway, New York, NY 10015
TJ Maxx
Whenever I lose my wife chances are she’s at TJ Maxx, and its hard for me to be upset because she usually walks away with some killer deals! They are one of the most affordable stores in SoHo for those of us balling on a budget.
TJ Maxx manages to buy name-brand items from manufacturers at a fraction of their cost, meaning some serious scores for New Yorkers. Whether its a new pair of slacks or beautiful dresses, there are some real gems to be had at this SoHo clothing store.
Address: 483 Broadway, New York, NY 10013

Women’s Clothing Stores SoHo
Reformation
Reformation is one of the most unique stores in SoHo. They were founded in Los Angeles in 2009 as a thrift store but began making their own clothing a short time after. With an emphasis on sustainability, they make their clothing from repurposed and low impact materials.
I don’t mind handing Reformation my hard earned cash because of their ethics (they’re fashionable clothing also helps). While most companies release earning reports, this SoHo clothing store releases sustainability reports.
In the reports they talk about their successes and failures regarding diversity, climate impact and working conditions along with focuses for the upcoming year. The transparency is hard to beat, and makes me feel good about coming back to their clothing store in SoHo.
Address: 23 Howard St, New York, NY 10013

Madewell
Madewell is under the umbrella of J. Crew brands and was created to be a niche store for women’s jeans. They’ve expanded to a wider array of items, and their SoHo clothing store sells nearly everything to put together a full outfit.
Their SoHo clothing store also participates in Madewell’s denim recycling program. You can bring in a pair of old, unwanted jeans (doesn’t matter the brand) for $20 off a purchase of a new pair. Then Madewell ships off your old jeans to be made into insulation for homes, giving them new life and keeping them out of landfills.
Address: 486 Broadway, New York, NY 10013

& Other Stories
& Other Stories has design teams in Stockholm, Paris and Los Angeles each designing collections that are meant to reflect the fashion in that city.
In their SoHo clothing store locals find items from all 3 designer cities, and are encouraged to put together outfits that tell their own narrative. (Hence the name, & Other Stories.)
& Other Stories goes against the grain by avoiding fast fashion. They instead create timeless pieces of clothing that will continue to tell the stories (pun intended) of the cities they were designed in and the people who wore them.
Address: 575 Broadway, New York, NY 10012

COS
COS is one of the most modern clothing stores in SoHo, with sleek basics lining the racks and shelves. Muted tones are the name of the game, along with timeless black & white classics.
Because they’re owned by H&M it has a similar aesthetic, but if H&M was the teenage younger sibling, COS would be the elegant young professional. The higher price point also comes with an increase in quality, making this one of the best clothing stores in SoHo.
Address: 129 Spring St, New York, NY 10012

Bloomingdale’s
Bloomingdale’s is a chain of large, luxury department stores and they have one of their best stores in SoHo. The store is famous and beloved by locals. Heck, even Rachel Green from the popular show Friends held a job here!
The Bloomingdale’s clothing store in SoHo is full of great finds, but the real gem is the fact that they have a public restroom (which is almost unheard of, so take advantage).
Address: 504 Broadway, New York, NY 10012, United States

Mens Clothing Stores SoHo
Bonobos
Bonobos started off as an online retailer but their rapid success forced their hand and they had to open a SoHo clothing store. They offer a variety of pants and shirts that I would label as date night casual attire.
And that’s all the better for me since this has become one of my go to SoHo stores! The selection is modern enough to keep me interested but not so trendy I feel like a teenage TikToker.
The location has appointments available for those looking for help from a stylist, but my preffered way of shopping is to just sifting what’s on the rack. When in need of a little help though the staff is friendly and knowledgable.
Address: 35 Crosby St, New York, NY 10013
Rag & Bone
Inspired by a blend of aesthetics between British tailored suits and American workwear, Rag & Bone finds itself as one of the best stores in SoHo has for mens clothing. Think denim, flannels and boots and then make it lavish.
Now the brand will cost you a pretty penny but the quality is excellent. I have a pair of jeans that were gifted to me and have made it a trip around the sun with no signs of wear yet!
Address: 119 Mercer St, New York, NY 10012

Sandro
Sandro has encapsulated the Parisian chic look and taken it from a single storefront in Paris to more than 600 locations worldwide. Among the many stores in SoHo you’ll find their US flagship location.
Outfitted with casual European inspired pieces, there’s enough for all of us to live our main character moment. It’s become one of my go to mens clothing stores in SoHo thanks to the simple elegance their pieces offer.
Sandro charges boutique prices with shirts running +$150, but I have yet to be disappointed with the quality or service.
Address: 117 Prince St, New York, NY 10012

J. Crew the Mens Shop
Among the many stores SoHo has to offer the J. Crew Mens Shop warrants a visit whenever I’m in the area. To me, its old reliable. Reasonably priced quality pieces including coats, cashmere and chinos that are closet staples.
In the 1980’s the company began designing Ralph Lauren-like clothing for those who didn’t have Ralph Lauren-like money (AKA me). It’s hard to compete with the socialites on the New York City stage but the J. Crew Mens Shop levels the playing field, even just a little.
Address: 484 Broadway, New York, NY 10013

ARI
Fair warning, Ari is an Italian made high-end store and its status is reflected in the price tag. With that being said I consider it one of the best stores in SoHo. You won’t it find anywhere else, they’re only in NYC, Miami & Beverly Hills.
The store has a casual vibe to it unlike some other luxury stores so even if its just for a quick visit I always tell my friends to pop in. Outside of the expensive t-shirts they make beautiful (beautiful) leather jackets. Their suede cashmere “whisky” jacket is gorgeous (I wear an L, thanks) and reappears in my dreams.
Address: 471 W Broadway, New York, NY 10012

Shoe Stores SoHo
Allbirds
Founded in 2014, Allbirds has amassed a cult-like following in an impressively short period of time. The SoHo shoe store was made famous thanks to their first shoe which was made out of Merino wool.
Simple, sustainable and versatile they now make anything from running shoes to flats. It’s one of the handful of stores that SoHo has where the whole family can find something they like.
They tout themselves the “most comfortable shoes in the world”. All I’m just going to say is that after thousands of steps through NYC streets my feet have yet to disagree.
Address: 73 Spring St Frnt B, New York, NY 10012

Nike
Let’s be real, how could I not include Nike? The brand is synonymous with sneakers and whether they’re for a kid or adult the excitement remains all the same. At their SoHo shoe store you’ll be able to find exclusive items and score on some serious deals.
It’s worth the stop every time I’m shopping in SoHo even if its just to check the sale rack. The location also offers their famous “Nike by You” customization so you can be in full control over the design of your kicks.
Address: 529 Broadway, New York, NY 10012

Kith
Although Kith is a great all around SoHo clothing store where it truly shines is in regards to their footwear. Kith partners with big brands to design popular classics with a unique twist. Like Birkenstock for example.
Kith partnered with them to make their iconic Arizona & London sandals but added wool to the inside. Now instead of basic Birks you get to enjoy a comfier slipper than anybody else in your friend group. They’ve designed shoes for Dr. Marten, Adidas and others and the only way to check them out is by making a pit stop at this SoHo shoe store.
Address: 337 Lafayette St, New York, NY 10012
Stadium Goods
For those of you who are into Jordans and resale sneakers in general Stadium Goods is a can’t miss shoe store in SoHo. Getting your hands on the newest releases can seem impossible but you’d be surprised at what they have in stock.
The shoes will come with a high price tag but the premium is thanks to a guarantee of authenticity. No need to meet up with a sketchy guy from the internet when you’re at the store where Complex films their famous show “Sneaker Shopping with Complex”.
Address: 47 Howard St, New York, NY 10013

John Fluevog
Arguably the most unique shoe store SoHo has ever seen, John Fluevog makes loud shoes for the loudest spirits. Nothing compares to the colors and patterns the Canadian designer puts into his audacious boots.
For those visiting New York and shopping in SoHo for something nobody else has there’s no excuse not to visit the store. Countless celebrities from Alice Cooper to Beyonce have donned their boots so why not you?
Address: 67 Prince St, New York, NY 10012

Jewelry Stores SoHo
Tiffany & Co.
If you love the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s then you will want to make a beeline towards Tiffany & Co’s. SoHo jewelry store. It’s not the same store featured in the film, but is still regarded as one of the best in the city.
During its 185 year history, Tiffany’s has grown into a status symbol for the rich & famous, but they also make some more affordable pieces. I always encourage friends from out of town to add this to their list of stores in SoHo to visit.
Address: 97 Greene St, New York, NY 10012
Catbird
Even though Catbird can technically be classified as part of Little Italy, I still consider it a can’t miss jewelry store during a SoHo shopping spree. It’s my go-to spot for inexpensive jewelry that can be both gifts & souvenirs.
There’s affordable, quality jewelry for under $100 (among other more lucrative options). I got my sister a locket & chain here for under $150 that she wears daily and looks as beautiful as when I bought it a year ago.
Address: 253 Centre St, New York, NY 10013

Versani
Versani makes old school, grungy jewelry featuring skulls, snakes and claws reminiscent of what the rockstars of the 1980’s would wear. I recommend this SoHo jewelry store to everyone except my dad, who I’m convinced would regrow his mullet if I let him in.
Since Versani’s SoHo jewelry store is also their headquarters they’re also able to make adjustments and resizing in house. This comes in handy for the visitors who are only here a few days since they can pick up their items before leaving town.
Address: 171 Mercer St, New York, NY 10012

Kendra Scott
In 2002 Kendra Scott started her jewelry business with $500 and a newborn baby. She’s gone on to grow that business into more than 100 retail stores and out of her more than 2,000 employees, 95% are women. Talk about girl power!
Her store in SoHo has all classic and trendy jewelry options, at price ranges to suit everyones needs. Whether you’re looking to buy a gift or just shopping for yourself, the jewelry store has everything you’ll need.
Address: 126 Spring St, New York, NY 10012

TAI Jewelery
This woman owned company had grown a following being sold online and in boutiques, and in 2016 they decided to open their only brick & mortar jewelry store in SoHo. It’s one of the best stores SoHo has for those looking to score a deal since most of their items are cute and inexpensive.
Address: 262 Mott St, New York, NY 10012
Best Boutiques in SoHo
Aritzia
The trendy and beautiful women’s clothing at Aritzia leaves no question as to why or how they grew such a loyal customer base. Their boutique in SoHo is always littered with folks perusing their two floors of fashion.
Aritzia is also unique in that they have a cafe inside their store. Their A-OK Cafe can supply a much needed pick-me-up after a busy day shopping in SoHo.
Address: 524 Broadway, New York, NY 10012

L’Appartment Sezane
Sézane is a French brand that needs no introduction. It has amassed a cult-like following with its chic seasonal clothing line and decided to launch a brick-and-mortar boutique in SoHo. Lucky for us!
The store feels like stepping foot into a Parisian apartment, which only adds to this unique shopping experience. Although technically in Nolita – I can’t help but stop during SoHo shopping trips.
Address: 254 Elizabeth St, New York, NY 10012

Kirna Zabete
This boutique in SoHo seems like exactly the kind of place Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City would shop at. There’s a variety of high end clothing items to choose from and the store itself is looks like the setting for a fashion magazine.
Address: 477 Broome St, New York, NY 10013

Celine
A trip to Celine is the quintessential SoHo shopping experience. The high end store has so much to choose from. Beyond women and mens clothing there’s shoes, jewelry and leather goods to choose from. Their boutique in SoHo has a relaxed and modern feel so its worth the stop even if it’s just to window shop.
Address: 67 Wooster St, New York, NY 10012

Wolf & Badger
Wolf & Badger’s boutique in SoHo puts the worlds best independent brands at New Yorker’s fingertips. Unlike some of the other SoHo stores that cater specifically to women, Wolf & Badger has something to spice up everyones wardrobe.
You never know what you’ll find at Wolf & Badger since they sell designers from all over the world. It’s fitting they chose the melting pot that is New York City for their U.S. outpost.
Address: 95 Grand St, New York, NY 10013
