Modern Bread & Bakery
I stumbled upon Modern Bakery completely by accident during a random morning walk. Without realizing that I stepped foot into a 100% gluten-free bakery, I ordered a bagel.
The bagel was so delicious (the chewy texture!) that I came back the following weekend for more. Keen to show my husband the bagels I’ve been raving about for a week. And it wasn’t until my second visit that I noticed the gluten free signage.
Then it hit me, did I accidentally order a gluten-free bagel last weekend?
Turns out I did, and I loved it as much as a traditional bagel — which is why I consider this one of the best gluten free bakeries in New York City. Their baked goods span the gamut, offering sweet and savory options, you’ll find everything from challah to cupcakes.
I took my friend here during her visit and she raved about the bagels as much as I did. In fact, we returned to Modern Bread & Bakery a few times while she was in town.

7 Grain Army
Brooklyn’s 7 Grain Army strives to encourage healthy eating habits through nourishing (gluten-free) comfort foods. Every item on the menu is loaded with super-foods because the belief is that proper nutrition keeps everyone healthy and happy.
But don’t you dare, even for a second, make the mistake of assuming that this great gluten free bakery in NYC churns out “healthy tasting food.” No, that couldn’t be further from the truth. The muffins alone warrant an hour-long subway ride and no one would be able to tell the bread is gluten-free unless told.

Erin McKenna’s Bakery
Erin McKenna’s opened in 2005 with a simple mission in mind: Serve gluten-free treats tailored to folks with gluten, egg, soy and dairy sensitivities. The success was staggering and within a year it became one of the most popular gluten free bakeries in New York City.
Churning out some of the tastiest celiac-free baked goods in NYC, it’s impossible to stop at one order. The entire bakery is also kosher, egg-free, dairy-free, nut-free and soy-free as well. But you wouldn’t know any of that if it weren’t for the signage, because frankly, it’s hard to tell.
The baked goods are on par with their gluten counterparts, and equally satisfying. The seasonal treats are especially great and warrant a detour.

Posh Pop Bakeshop
If you’re on the hunt for gluten free sweets,Posh Pop Bakeshop is hard to beat. Their beautiful desserts have become an instagram sensation but not without reason! They taste as great as they look.

Senza Gluten Cafe & Bakery
Located in the West Village, the bakery is an offshoot from Senza Gluten (the gluten-free Italian restaurant on the same block). The restaurant is great (especially for those that love pasta), but the bakery is where this gem truly shines. Expect to find delicious brunch dishes (the quiche is great), pizza and knock-out muffins. There’s no denying that Senza Gluten Cafe is one of the most charming gluten free bakeries in New York City.

@Nancy Cialdella, Their store isn’t totally gluten-free, they have gluten on the shelves. Plus, they use gluten-free wheat starch in their products so those of us with a wheat allergy cannot safely eat their food. There is a lot of misinformation about that store.
