Oscar Wilde is a beautiful Victorian-style restaurant that goes all out with festive decorations. The restaurant is home to an impressive art collection, a cozy French fireplace from the 1840s, and stained glass from an Irish castle.
Every inch of the place gets decorated (including the ceiling), minimalism has no place here. For these reasons, it’s one of the best (and most festive) bars open on Christmas day in New York City. The food is good, but not great (but the drinks are superb). If ambiance trumps flavor, Oscar Wilde is the place for you. If not, keep reading for more bars open on Christmas Day in NYC.
Featuring an industrial but modern decor, to call the Roxy Bar charming would be an understatement. The bar offers a cozy lounge ambiance and occasionally guests are serenaded by a live jazz band. You’ll find a wide array of cocktails, beer, and wine as well as a decent food menu.
If you get hungry you’ll have the option of seafood, salads, or sandwiches as well as upscale bar food like burgers and mac and cheese. Since this is one of the best bars open on Christmas Eve and day in NYC I encourage making a reservation. The place swells with locals and you don’t want to have to wait for a table.
The Flatiron Room
The Flatiron Room offers a special holiday experience for those looking for the best bars open on Christmas day in NYC. With two locations in the city, reservations are available on both Christmas Eve and day so planning ahead is crucial. For $135/person you can enjoy a three-course meal with a live performance.
What’s more, The Flat Iron Room is an award-winning bar — reasons alone to consider it one of the best bars open on Christmas Eve in NYC. The smokey whiskey and dim-lit bar can make you feel like you’re in a cabin in the woods, warming up after a long day.
The Pineapple Club is a colorful and tropical-themed restaurant in the East Village, and also one of the best bars open on Christmas day in New York City. Think of it as celebrating Christmas… in Hawaii! The Very Pineapple Christmas menu is available from December 20th to January 5th, meaning you can enjoy Christmas dinner in NYC for two weeks!
You can expect an eclectic cuisine with items like a seafood tower, oysters, and prime rib. And if you’re in an extra-celebratory mood consider pre-ordering a bottle of champagne when you make your reservation to one of the best bars open on Christmas Eve & day in NYC.
Every year during the holidays, Bacall’s restaurant in Times Square welcomes Frosty’s, an incredible Christmas pop-up. Frosty’s is made up of four bars spread across three floors making it one of the best Christmas pop-up bars in New York City (and it’s open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!).
Tickets start at $20 per person and grant you access to all three floors. However, if you choose to visit Bacall’s (the restaurant portion of the extravaganza) you won’t require a ticket. Admittedly, the food is a little bland, so I say stick to the drinks and gawk at the decorations.
Since Frosty’s is one of the best bars open on Christmas day in NYC I highly recommend making reservations. The decorations are second to none, there are plenty of photo-taking opportunities.
Miracle on 9th Street
Greg Boehm founded Miracle when he opted to postpone construction on his cocktail bar Mace in order to create a holiday-themed pop-up. He used the unfinished space, decked it out with Christmas decorations, and masterfully built a temporary holiday-inspired menu of craft cocktails.
It quickly became one of the best bars in New York City open on Christmas Eve and day. To no one’s surprise the word got out and locals started coming en masse. The next year they expanded the pop-up by partnering with more bars around the city and now Miracle is a worldwide company.
Today, New York City is home to Miracle on 9th in the East Village and Miracle on Union in Williamsburg, each worthy of being among the best bars open on Christmas Eve and day in NYC.
Grinchy’s at Roberta’s
In 2022 Roberta’s spiced up the holidays with a Grinch-themed holiday pop-up bar. After the wild success, Roberta’s has decided to continue the tradition with epic decorations and drinks. Starting December 1st, the legendary pie shop transforms part of the restaurant into a holiday tiki bar where you can drink and eat your heart away under memorable decorations. And if you find yourself looking for a fun bar open on Christmas Eve in NYC, Grinchy’s checks all the boxes with their take on Grinchmas.

Bazár Tapas Bar & Restaurant
If you have an ugly holiday sweater you’ve been dying to wear all season put that baby on and head to Bazár Tapas Bar. It’s one of the best bars open on Christmas Eve in NYC and hosts an event you’re not going to want to miss.
From 9 pm to 1 am on Christmas Eve the bar will be holding an ugly sweater party that encourages folks to celebrate the holidays in style. Bazár Tapas is also one of the only bars open on Christmas in NYC that still has reservations available. Try to book them early enough so you don’t have to deal with a line!
Loreley Beer Garden
Not only is Loreley Beer Garden one of the best bars open on Christmas in New York City, it’s also home to the largest heated outdoor patio in the Lower East Side.
Regardless if you choose to sit inside or outside, you’ll be surrounded by over-the-top Christmas decorations and twinkling lights starting on November 16th, 2023. Out in the heated patio area, you’ll find a wall covered entirely by colorful ornaments that make for a great backdrop for Instagram photos.
While at Loreley Beer Garden, make sure to try any of their holiday cocktails. I’m partial to the famous Boozy Black & White Hot Chocolate made with bourbon and my wife loves the spiked eggnog! No wonder it’s one of our favorite bars open on Christmas Eve and day in NYC.
Locals Tip: Loreley’s Beer Garden will also be hosting a Christmas brunch on the 25th of December. Consider this one of the best bars open on Christmas Day in New York City, no matter what time of day you visit.
When it comes to bars open on Christmas Day in NYC, Bemelmans Bar is a gem. Found in the classy Carlyle Hotel, this Upper East Side bar is best known for the alluring murals that adorn the walls.
The murals were hand-painted by none other than the beloved illustrator behind the famous Madeline books, Ludwig Bemelmans (for whom the bar is named). The beautiful murals were commissioned in the 1940s and depict Central Park in all four seasons.
The staff are dressed to impress, the bar is dimly lit and the aged leather banquettes offer an air of sophistication and class. What makes this one of the best bars open on Christmas Eve and Day in NYC is the fact that Bemelmans is open 365 days of the year. There’s no need to question where to go if you find yourself without plans on the 25th!
